Wherein I Shut Down The Debate Again

By Thomas Krehbiel

It's really tempting to make up a cute graphic and a cheesy slogan to put at the top of my posts regarding the SWAC Bloggers.

The latest from SWAC Girl, Political Correctness Will Kill Us ... Part 6, makes it pretty clear that the Republican grassroots in Staunton is not the humorously misguided band I once thought they were: They are engaged in a full-scale, calculated propaganda campaign, most likely intended as a first strike in the Virginia 2007 election season.

I can handle and perhaps even sympathize with ignorance, but political deception from any party is really annoying.

The gist of the latest post is pretty much the same as the first five parts in the series: Muslims declared war. Islam is violent. America is in danger. Democrats don't get it. The left is shutting down debate. You get the idea. (One imagines it is only a matter of time before they start adding "Vote Republican Or Die.")

SWAC Girl writes, "They have questioned our facts citing there are 100 million radical Muslims worldwide. Where did that number come from?"

Where indeed?

"Various sources estimate the Muslim population worldwide at 1.2 to 1.5 billion. Experts have said only 10% of that number represent the radical portion of Islam."

Apparently, that number came from "various sources" and "experts." And since no links were provided, we have to take their word for it. (At the risk of "shutting down debate," and in the absence of contrary evidence, readers might be better informed by looking over my recent post exploring where that number might really have come from.)

"Radical Muslims want to kill us because they hate us. They hate us because we are infidels (unbelievers) ... we don't practice the same religion or lifestyle they do."

Not that it matters for their anti-Muslim campaign, but I suspect terrorist motivations are actually more complicated than that.

"For that they feel we must pay with our lives. Now that's something to think about."

Yes, think about it! But unfortunately you can't say anything after you think about it, because that would be "shutting down debate." And you thought this was a free society!

I don't
