Followup On Nancy Pelosi In Syria

By Thomas Krehbiel

I wanted to follow up real quick on Nancy Pelosi's trip to Syria. I took Alice's advice and read a little bit from Media Matters on this subject and did indeed find that Republicans and talk radio/talk blogs were (imo) blowing things way out of proportion. They probably still would be if it weren't for the Don Imus "controversy."

I tend to trust Media Matters' view on the Pelosi subject because I also read over a couple conservative-themed watchdogs (NewsBusters and Accuracy In Media) and found almost no comments about Pelosi's trip. That seemed pretty suspicious. If both sides were talking about it, I would figure the media reports were somewhat accurate. But if only one side is complaining about it, then that definitely suggests some holes in the media reports.

This CNN report also paints Pelosi's Syrian trip in a much better light than the initial reports. (Funny how the news media managed to inject themselves into the story, though.) She did at least present a unified front against terrorism. All in all, I can't say I think it was a great idea for her to go to Syria, but I can't say it did any harm either.
